Nicki and Lacey

Afghan hounds are not just those elegant dogs that grace the showrings. They compete also in field events such as lure coursing, and agility. These beautiful sisters, cousins of Azzie, exemplify this. Their mother, Vashti, was litter sister to Azzie's mother. They were bred by Cindy Chandler and are owned by Terry and Sue Anderson in Indiana.

Lacey, with the black mask, gained her conformation championship with 4 Best of Breeds and 2 group placements. She enjoys these events and loves to hear everyone clap at ringside. Nicki, however, does not enjoy conformation shows but has found her niche in the performance events.

Nicki and Lacey runningLure Coursing

When coursing, Lacey is intent on the lure but soon learned how to cheat and cut the course to her advantage, frequently catching the lure. It took a whole season practising straight line racing to keep her behind the lure enough to get the first place finishes needed to achieve the ASFA Field Champion title. In 2001 she finished #11 in ASFA.Nicki has always been a go for it dog and early on began to enjoy performance events. She fought hard against some excellent running dogs to achieve both her AKC and ASFA Field Championships. She finished 2000 ASFA at #14 and 2001 ASFA in the #4 spot. She still runs clean and all out all the time.

Lacey has also gained AKC and UKC Agility titles. AKC is all speed whereas UKC requires more precision in running the course. UKC fits her style and she has achieved two titles there. Her graceful jumping style draws frequent Oohs and Aahs from the audience. She is fun at home, always looking forward to solving mental challenges that she is given.
Nicki is very focused in agility and it titled in both AKC and UKC. She achieved her AKC Novice standard and AKC Novice Jumpers titles in just 4 trials at the age of two. You can almost see her smiling when she trains. She is the entertainer, throwing bones in the air, parading her treat in front of her sister, and antagonising her until she plays chase. Best of all, she is the most loving dog ever at home "requiring" intensive petting both morning and night.
